Are you attracted to the idea of a  Zen lifestyle, but imagine it’s too difficult to create? You need not eat goji berries, drink yak milk, and sit in a challenging yoga pose in a sacred place to enjoy mindful healthy living. Here’s how to adopt a way of life that increases well-being but doesn’t involve anything too radical.

  1. Start the day early and with love

Thoughts planted early in the morning continue to grow during the day. Set your mind to meet positivity rather than musing about the potential problems your day might bring. Tell yourself you are curious to discover what the next twenty-four hours will reveal and that you intend to think, talk, and act with love.

  1. Note insights

Many great thinkers from the past jotted insights that popped into their minds in their notebooks. Do likewise about the little life lessons you recognize as you go about your day. Putting pen to paper will consolidate the wisdom you glean in your brain and train you to recognize more of the same.

  1. Keep a gratitude journal

Research shows people who are thankful are also happy and positive. Notice how lucky you are and your optimism and satisfaction with life will grow. Remember to write in your journal every day and spend a few moments letting the realization you are blessed just to be alive. This is particularly important if you live with depression.

  1. Practice mindfulness

Fill your mind with one task at a time. When you focus on the act of walking, cleaning the car, or spending time outdoors, stress will leave and be replaced by serenity. The more you practice, the easier gaining peace of mind will become each day.

  1. De-stress in a tranquil haven

You can’t control your surroundings all the time, but you are in charge of your environment at home. Create a peaceful haven; a place you can unwind and let go of stress. It might be a corner of your yard, filled with pots of flowers and a mini waterfall, or a nook in the dining room where you burn incense and meditate as you gaze at a flickering candle flame.
